Bogotá fashion industry international expansion
Overview
The international expansion of Bogotá’s fashion industry continues through structured institutional support and diverse cultural initiatives. Under the Bogotá Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Puente Internacional’ program, eight Colombian brands recently showcased collections at New York Fashion Week. These designers highlighted social and regional narratives, such as Valentina Anzola García of Ciento Cinco Lunares, who draws inspiration from women in the global south, and Liza Herrera Contreras, who features hand-woven footwear produced by Colombian female heads of household. As part of the 2026 global circuit, Colombiamoda and Inexmoda are scheduled to bring five brands—including NNT Lab, Andrés Pajón, and BLESS—to Paris from October 1 to 5. This movement seeks to diversify markets beyond the Americas, which currently represent approximately 90% of Colombia’s $533.42 million in fashion exports. Complementing these commercial efforts, the ‘Territorios Vivos París 2026’ initiative, organized by Asodamas de Colombia, is bringing cultural delegations from La Guajira and Valledupar to France. During Paris Fashion Week, the program showcases ancestral knowledge and female leadership. In La Guajira, artisan Lays Carolina Móvil Gámez of the brand ALEWASHI presents ‘Latidos de Woumain’, featuring hand-woven Wayuu crochet bags inspired by local biodiversity. The initiative includes the ‘Hilos de Territorio’ museum exhibition and the ‘El Nuevo Lujo Latinoamericano’ runway show on October 3, aiming to promote economic sustainability through traditional crafts. Following these events, the initiative concluded with further recognition of Colombian talent in Paris. María Stella Cabrera Erazo, a master artisan from Sandoná, Nariño, received the ‘Maître Artisan ou Designer – Chambre de Métiers et de l’Artisanat Île-de-France’ distinction for her excellence in ancestral arts. Additionally, designer Lina Guerra and artisan Claudia Matiz represented Valledupar in an international runway show.
