Commercial flight passenger misconduct incidents

Overview

Reports have emerged regarding separate incidents of passenger misconduct involving indecent behavior on commercial flights.

In one instance on a Copa Airlines flight from Panama City to Rosario, Argentina, two passengers were arrested after being accused of engaging in sexual activity in business class. While some reports suggested a child witnessed the act, a witness testified that the six-year-old child nearby was asleep. The individuals were removed from the aircraft upon landing, though no charges were filed.

In a separate incident on American Airlines Flight 1779, an Airbus A319 traveling from Baltimore/Washington to Miami, a female passenger was detained by law enforcement. On Friday, September 11, the passenger, seated in row 9, allegedly undressed and engaged in explicit, indecent acts in view of other passengers while the aircraft was cruising at approximately 38,000 feet.

According to Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) logs, the lead flight attendant notified the cockpit and requested law enforcement be waiting at the destination. The plane landed in Miami around 11:23 p.m. EDT without diverting, where officers met the aircraft at the gate to apprehend the individual. The identity and age of the passenger have not yet been released, and authorities are currently investigating the incident.
