Cultural festivals and art events in Vienna
Overview
Vienna is hosting a variety of cultural events and festivals in late 2026. The Klanglicht art festival is expanding to the city for the first time with ‘Klanglicht im Park – The Sound of Light’, an immersive light and sound installation set to run from October 23, 2026, through January 10, 2027, in the Schwarzenberggarten. Organized by Georg Hoanzl, curator Birgit Lill-Schnabl, and Klanglicht inventor Bernhard Rinner, the event transforms the historic garden between Palais Schwarzenberg and the Belvedere into a parcours of 16 artistic stations. A prominent highlight is ‘Museum of the Moon’ by British artist Luke Jerram, which utilizes a seven-meter-wide moon displaying high-resolution NASA imagery. Other participating artists include Yasuhiro Chida, Alfredo Barsuglia, Miriam Hamann, and Hartung & Trenz. Additional features include wire animal sculptures designed by architect Katja Paternoster.
This expansion coincides with the festival’s simultaneous return to Graz. At Schloss Eggenberg, the Graz program runs from October 23 to November 7, 2026, centered on the theme of ‘Time’. The Graz installation includes 14 artistic works and two additional stations, such as Daniel Rossa’s ‘Kadenzen’, which uses the castle facade for digital projections, and the Australian studio ENESS’s ‘Whispering Mountains’, featuring inflatable, glowing mountain forms that use artificial intelligence to communicate thoughts.
The city’s music scene is highlighted by the Loftival series at The Loft, running from September to December. Additionally, the Waves Vienna Festival is scheduled for October 1–3, 2026, featuring over 100 emerging acts. Other scheduled activities include art fairs such as Parallel Vienna, the Astoria Artshow, and the Galerienfestival.
