Delta State Governor Oborevwori initiatives
Overview
In early July 2026, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori inaugurated a fleet of 50 new buses and donated five vehicles, dubbed “Green Marias”, to the state correctional service to improve mobility, security, and judicial operations. The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria praised the bus initiative as “people-centred governance”.
Two weeks later, the governor swore in new commissioners and board members, including Brave Enodeh and Moses Ogodo, urging them to uphold integrity and professionalism under his MORE agenda. He also approved financial assistance for 533 indigenes who completed the 2025 session of the Nigerian Law School. To receive the aid, beneficiaries were required to submit electronic documentation by 29 July 2026.
Later in July, Oborevwori announced a welfare package for Delta residents returning from South Africa following xenophobic attacks. Each affected family will receive a ₦2 million grant, with monthly stipends of ₦200,000 per individual returnee and ₦300,000 per family, beginning in August 2026 and continuing until 29 May 2027. The package includes free medical screening and trauma counselling.
In August 2026, the governor expanded administrative oversight by appointing governing councils for three state-owned universities: the University of Delta, Agbor; Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba; and Southern Delta University, Ozoro. Pro-Chancellors appointed include Professor Victor Peretomode, Professor Patrick Muoboghare, and Chief Godson Echegile.
