Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World release details

Overview

Square Enix has released additional gameplay details and screenshots for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World, scheduled for release on December 3, 2026. This latest update introduces the ‘Quick Scouting’ feature, which enables players to recruit wild monsters in the field by offering them meat, thereby bypassing traditional combat. Furthermore, the ‘Scout Run’ feature at the Witherwood paddock will grant access to rarer monsters during later stages of the game.

New combat mechanics have been revealed, specifically ‘Joint Battles.’ In this mode, protagonists Bianca and Nera combine their forces under shared HP and MP gauges to confront massive enemies. These battles can be experienced in a battle arena or via online play with up to four players. Recent updates clarify that online content, including Online Joint Battles, becomes available after progressing through the main story. These modes will support cross-platform play, allowing users on different systems to play together.

During online battles, players can communicate using preset messages. Utilizing healing or support skills on allies triggers a ‘Team Bonus,’ which increases damage output and healing effectiveness. Players can also earn various colored monster eggs as rewards from online challenges. Additionally, a roguelike mode known as ‘Wrangler’s Gauntlet’ has been announced.

The narrative update includes details regarding the disappearance of Almira, the guardian of Witherwood, and introduces new monsters such as Hammerhood, See slug, and a Panda pilgrim. The game remains slated for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
