Educational support initiatives in Africa
Overview
Educational support initiatives continue across several African nations, with recent efforts focusing on providing supplies and financial aid to vulnerable students ahead of the new school year.
In West Africa, specific programs have targeted orphans and disadvantaged youth. In Burkina Faso, the Caisse populaire de Dapoya awarded scholarships to 43 orphans, while the URCB/SD provided grants and kits to 125 students in Tougan. Côte d'Ivoire saw significant distributions, including 5,000 kits in Bouaké and supplies for disadvantaged children in Port Bouet.
In Togo, initiatives have expanded to include diverse community-led support. The NGO Dev-Afrique distributed backpacks, notebooks, geometric sets, and shoes to students at EPP Afagnagan. In the Agoè-Nyivé regions, the Association des couturières et tailleurs de Vakpossito (ACTAV), alongside the Horizon 2000 Conglomerate and the Agoè-Nyivé 3 municipality, provided kits and uniforms to 110 students. To facilitate exam registration, the AECPVU provided 192 children in the Savanes region with birth certificates and legal documents. Additionally, the Association Dzidzo installed 44 family latrines in the Zio commune to improve hygiene.
In Senegal, the Association d’appui à l’éducation, à l’enfance et à la santé (ADEES) distributed school supplies, pedagogical materials, and sports equipment in the Ngaye Mékhé commune.
In Nigeria, the Access Women Network and Evolve Charity Trust launched an initiative to distribute uniforms, sandals, books, and bags to girls across 17 schools in 12 states, including Lagos, Abuja, and Kano. Iyabo Soji-Okusanya of Access Bank Plc noted the program reflects a commitment to “women’s empowerment and expanding educational opportunities.”
