FCSB player controversies, transfers, and FIFA ban

Overview

FCSB continues to navigate internal tensions and management scrutiny. Following the loan of Tavi Popescu to Levadiakos, reports emerged regarding the player’s off-field conduct involving the alleged consumption of nitrous oxide. On the transfer front, Gigi Becali has targeted Kosovar midfielder Lindon Emerllahu, though recent high-cost acquisitions have faced criticism.

Negotiations regarding midfielder Aymen Boutoutaou have progressed toward a reported agreement with Universitatea Craiova. The deal involves Boutoutaou moving to Craiova in exchange for striker Steven Nsimba, with Becali potentially paying an additional one million euros to facilitate the transaction. While Mihai Stoica has defended Boutoutaou as the ‘most talented player in the SuperLiga,’ Becali appears intent on moving the player, who has scored two goals in 11 matches. To further strengthen the squad under coach Laurențiu Reghecampf, Becali has identified Nicolae Stanciu for the number 10 position and is monitoring defensive midfielders Victor Dican from Farul Constanța and Charles Petro from FC Botoșani.

Adding to the club's administrative challenges, FCSB remains under a FIFA transfer ban due to an unpaid debt of approximately 50,000 euros owed to former player William Baeten. The dispute concerns a bonus Baeten claims he earned following the club’s 2024 Europa League qualification. Despite Becali’s stated intentions to settle the amount, the debt remains unpaid as of late September, and FIFA has maintained the prohibition until the obligation is met.
