Overview

Greece is implementing several initiatives to enhance maritime monitoring and protect its territorial interests. Parallel to these domestic fishery upgrades, Greece is addressing sovereignty disputes in the Aegean Sea. Amid reports of Turkish fishermen operating within Greek waters, the government is bolstering its maritime presence through the ‘Aegis 2’ program. This modernization of the Hellenic Coast Guard includes the acquisition of offshore patrol vessels, drones, and unmanned surface vehicles to expand surveillance capabilities from the Aegean to Crete and the Ionian Sea.
