Overview
In early July 2026 India’s rail‑related public sector launched a wave of hiring campaigns. The North Central Railway’s Railway Recruitment Cell opened 1,853 apprentice slots for the 2026‑27 training year, while Chennai Metro Rail Limited advertised senior‑managerial contracts and deputations. State‑owned BEML invited applications for 23 managerial and engineering roles, and the National High Speed Rail Corporation announced 34 senior posts and 175 junior‑engineer positions. The Technology Development Board posted five contract Project Coordinator roles. The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) issued Centralised Employment Notification 04/2026, opening 4,098 vacancies for Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant posts, with online applications from 14 August to 13 September 2026. On 20 July, Chennai Metro expanded senior‑staff recruitment and announced procurement of 28 new six‑coach trains. Further expansion came on 25 July when the Northeast Frontier Railway released online applications for 6,777 apprentice positions across trades such as fitter, welder, electrician, plumber, carpenter and machinist, requiring a minimum 50 % in Class 10 and relevant ITI certificates; the deadline is 19 August 2026. Together, the apprentice and junior‑engineer announcements represent 10,875 new entry‑level jobs across Indian Railways for 2026‑27, all offering Pay Level‑6 salaries starting at ₹35,400 per month.
