India-Singapore strategic partnership development

Overview

India and Singapore are continuing to advance their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through high-level diplomatic and economic engagements. In August 2026, following the 19th round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, the fourth India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) was held in Singapore. Led by India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, the meeting resulted in agreements to expand cooperation in semiconductors, fintech, the green economy, and clean energy.

During the ISMR, the nations signed memorandums of understanding regarding telecommunications, broadcasting regulations, food safety, and maritime heritage. The discussions also reviewed progress across six strategic pillars: advanced manufacturing, connectivity, digitalization, healthcare and medicine, skills development, and sustainability. To mark this phase, ministers laid the foundation stone for a new Indian High Commission chancery complex in Singapore.

Economic ties remain robust, supported by significant investment activity from Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, Temasek. Recent Temasek-backed companies, including the dairy company Milky Mist Dairy Food and the logistics platform Shiprocket, have seen successful market entries in India.

Furthering these commercial links, the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCII) has announced plans to strengthen ties with Indian policymakers and industry leaders. Under the leadership of newly appointed CEO Pradeep Menon, SICCII intends to send business delegations to major Indian states, starting with Tamil Nadu, to facilitate cross-border trade and address Singapore’s demand for skilled Indian professionals.
