Overview
The Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) has continued its regional leadership transitions and inaugurations across several provinces.
In the Riau Islands, the leadership for the remainder of the 2023–2028 term was officially re-inaugurated in Batam on September 17, 2026. During the ceremony, PWI Riau Islands Chairman Saibansah Dardani emphasized adherence to the organization’s articles of association, the Journalistic Code of Ethics, and the Journalist Code of Conduct. In Semarang Regency, the inauguration took place at the Semarang Regent’s Pendopo, where PWI Central Java Chairman Setiawan Hendra Kelana urged members to maintain professionalism, integrity, and independence. He advised journalists to remain critical yet constructive, offering solutions rather than mere criticism.
In the Payakumbuh and Lima Puluh Kota regions, Aspon Dedi (also known as Popon) was re-elected as Chairman for the 2026–2029 term on September 27, 2026. In West Java, the PWI leadership for the 2026–2031 term was inaugurated in Bandung, with officials emphasizing synergy between the press and government. Meanwhile, in Aceh, the registration process for the PWI Aceh Provincial Conference for the 2026–2031 period commenced, with candidates required to secure support from at least 10 percent of regular members.
