Inter Milan bolsters squad with Curtis Jones and PL arrivals

Overview

Inter Milan has reached a definitive agreement with Liverpool to sign midfielder Curtis Jones for a total package of approximately €35 million (£30 million). The deal includes a €30 million fixed fee, €5 million in performance-related bonuses, and a 10% sell-on clause for Liverpool.

The 25-year-old England international has arrived in Milan to undergo medical examinations. He is expected to sign a five-year contract through 2031 with a reported annual salary of roughly €3.5 million net. This move ends a 16-year tenure at Liverpool, where Jones made 228 appearances.

Ahead of the Serie A season opener against Monza, Inter manager Cristian Chivu addressed the media, emphasizing that the defending champions must maintain high standards. Chivu noted that the squad has been significantly bolstered by Premier League arrivals, including Jones, John Stones, Djed Spence, and Manuel Akanji. Chivu remarked that the increased depth provides the club with “two competitive teams,” enhancing their ability to compete across multiple competitions.

Chivu also addressed rumors regarding captain Lautaro Martínez, reiterating the club’s commitment to keeping him despite interest from Barcelona.

To address the loss of central midfield depth, Liverpool continues to explore replacements. Potential targets include Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, though his high valuation remains a hurdle, as well as Bayern Munich’s Aleksandr Pavlovic. The club may also look to integrate academy prospect Trey Nyoni or pursue PSG players Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.
