Italian PNRR-funded childcare expansions

Overview

In late June 2026, the Carmagnola municipal council prepared the expansion of the Craveri nursery, a €5.6 million PNRR project serving 113 children. The following week, Morro d'Alba inaugurated a forest-adjacent centre for 14 infants. Reggio Emilia’s €30 million PNRR-backed centre at Parco Nilde Iotti reached construction completion by the 31 August deadline, with the first nursery opening in January 2027.

On 25 July, the Education Ministry’s under-secretary visited Vasanello’s newly opened €479,371 eco-designed municipal nursery. In early August, Piovene Rocchette’s NZEB-compliant nursery and Fardella’s new school were inaugurated. On 5 August, Bertinoro opened the Santa Maria Nuova municipal nursery, adding 30 places for children aged 0-3. This Montessori-inspired facility, managed by the social cooperative Formula Servizi alle Persone, received a €60,000 Ministry grant for furniture. Enrollment is open to both resident and neighboring families, with subsidies available for households with an ISEE below €40,000.

By mid-August, construction of a new municipal nursery in Chieti Scalo’s Villaggio Mediterraneo district was nearing completion. The €2 million PNRR-funded project, designed as a Nearly Zero Energy Building (NZEB) with a photovoltaic system, is expected to be finished by the end of August. The 840-square-meter facility includes a 640-square-meter fenced outdoor play area, with a coordination meeting scheduled for 2 September to manage the building handover.
