Buckingham Palace confirmed that James opted to proceed directly to university following his A-level examinations rather than taking a gap year. He has now begun a three-year degree program in Rural Land and Property Management at the Royal Agricultural University in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

As part of the university’s traditions, James participated in a freshers’ procession through the historic streets of Cirencester alongside approximately 250 other students. The group, wearing academic gowns, attended a matriculation ceremony at St John Baptist Parish Church. The Royal Agricultural University is one of only four UK universities, alongside Oxford, Cambridge, and Durham, that maintains such a procession.

Professor Peter McCaffery, the university’s vice chancellor, described the event as a “rite of passage” designed to help students settle into their new environment and meet their peers. The procession concluded with a lunch to facilitate social connections among the new cohort.
