Škoda sedan market strategy in India

Overview

Škoda is pursuing two distinct strategies for the Indian sedan market. The company plans to reintroduce the luxury Superb sedan by early 2027, utilizing a 2.0-liter TDI diesel engine imported as a completely built unit from Bratislava. Due to import duties, this model is expected to cost between 55,000 and 60,000 euros, significantly higher than European pricing.

In contrast, Škoda is also updating the Slavia, a sedan manufactured locally in India on the MQB-A0-IN platform. While the Superb serves as a high-end import, the Slavia follows a ‘produced in India, for India’ strategy and is exported to markets in Vietnam, the Middle East, and Africa.

Following a period of production updates and price revisions in late 2026, Škoda Auto India officially launched the facelifted Slavia on October 6, 2026. Ex-showroom prices for the new model start at ₹9.99 lakh. The updated lineup consists of six variants: Classic, Classic+, Signature, Sportline, Prestige, and Monte Carlo, with the top-tier Monte Carlo 1.5 TSI DSG version priced at ₹18.84 lakh.

A key mechanical highlight is the introduction of an eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the 1.0-liter TSI engine, which the company notes is the first in its segment to offer this configuration. The 1.5-liter TSI engine continues to use a seven-speed DSG automatic. Design updates include LED headlamps, sequential rear turn indicators, a new grille, and updated alloy wheels. The interior has been enhanced with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster in higher trims, a 25.6-centimeter touchscreen, a 360-degree camera, and an AI-powered voice assistant.
