Kumamoto earthquake relief fundraising

In late July 2026, Japan mobilised a series of fundraising initiatives to support victims of the Kumamoto earthquake. On 29 July, Caritas Japan launched an emergency support fund, partnering with Caritas Fukuoka and local organisations to direct donations toward aid, reconstruction and regional recovery. The J‑League rolled out a "TEAM AS ONE" campaign, collecting contributions through matches and events for the Japan Foundation’s disaster‑reconstruction special fund and the Japanese Red Cross, while also pledging its own funds. Individual clubs such as Blaublitz Akita organised donation drives linked to home‑games and public‑viewing events running through October, and volleyball star Takahashi Ai publicly pledged to use her performance to aid recovery.

Two days later, on 31 July, entertainment company BMSG announced a direct contribution of 20 million yen (2,000万円) to the prefecture’s designated relief account, earmarked for reconstruction and assistance to displaced residents. The company’s statement also urged continued safety precautions for those in evacuation shelters.

Together, these actions illustrate a coordinated effort by sports, charitable, and corporate actors to channel financial resources toward Kumamoto’s earthquake recovery efforts.
