Overview

The Inter-High soccer meet moved to Kansai in late May, with Shiga and Kyoto hosting qualifiers where Kyoto Kyoei Gakuen advanced via penalty shoot-out. June track-and-field regional qualifiers saw Otsu Commercial High School’s Aina Tsuchida qualify for nationals in the 5,000-metre race-walk.

In June, Kyoto International High School entered the local baseball tournament as a non-seeded team aiming for a third consecutive title. The 108th National High School Baseball Championship Kyoto tournament opened on July 4 at Wakasa Stadium with 75 schools. Following rain delays on July 6, play resumed on July 7-8, featuring a Ryukoku Dahei shutout and Kyoto Kogakuin’s first summer win in nine years. A July 9 survey in Ishikawa showed strong opposition to a proposed seven-inning format.

On July 10, Higashiyama High School defeated Ayabe High School in the second round, while the 59th Seluma Cup U-12 soccer finals were held. On July 19, pitcher Kawasaka threw an eight-inning no-hitter for East Mountain High School. The Kyoto prefectural delegation for the national Inter-High was also announced. On July 24, Toyoura High School held a joint soccer practice, and Kenzaro Teraji won the WBO super-flyweight title. Ritsumeikan Uji High School claimed the Kyoto baseball title on July 27 by defeating Toba High School 10-3.
