Overview

The 16th edition of the NaxosLegge festival, themed ‘Mythos. La sfida del pensiero mitico’, continues its exploration of ancient myths and contemporary interpretations through various mediums.

On September 11, the festival hosts the ‘Premio Promotori della Cultura’ at Lido di Naxos in Giardini Naxos. Dedicated to the memory of Franz Riccobono, the awards recognize excellence in literature, poetry, art, theater, music, and cultural heritage management. Led by Fulvia Toscano, the ceremony includes musical performances by Francesco Loccisano and a reading of Giuseppe Conte’s ‘Carme ai Laridi’ by actor Giovanni Calcagno. Honorees include poet Giuseppe Conte, political scientist Marco Tarchi, Romanian Ambassador Gabriela Dancau, journalist Alberto Samonà, Valerio Santoro, Valentina Currenti, artist Nicola Verlato, Francesco Rizzo, Francesco Malfitano, Luigi Tabita, and Flavia Maraston. Each recipient receives a work by sculptor Stefania Pennacchio.

On September 12, the Naxos Archaeological Park’s Teatro della Nike will host events as part of the festival and the ‘Interpretare l’Antico’ series. Marco Giorgetti and Charles Chemin will present the international project ‘DON Q’, a collaboration between Teatro Stabile di Catania, Baryshnikov Productions, and the Watermill Center. This presentation includes a discussion titled ‘Con e contro Don Chisciotte’ and a screening of Fabio Segatori’s film ‘Don Chisciotte’, starring Alessio Boni. Additionally, the ‘Interpretare l’Antico’ series will feature ‘Katabasis’, a theatrical performance by Alessio Boni based on the sixth book of Virgil’s Aeneid, utilizing live music by Franca Bongiovanni.
