New York Giants sign veteran RB Najee Harris

Overview

The New York Giants have signed veteran running back Najee Harris to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract worth approximately $1.215 million. The 28-year-old former Pro Bowler is attempting a comeback after suffering a season-ending ruptured left Achilles tendon while playing for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. The low cost of the deal reportedly reflects the medical risks associated with his recent injury history.

To accommodate Harris, the Giants released veteran wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Harris joins a backfield that includes Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary, where he is expected to serve as an early-down and short-yardage option. Head coach John Harbaugh noted that while Harris is a “decorated vet,” he is not yet at 100 percent or in full football shape, suggesting his integration will be a gradual process.

Recent official photos of Harris have drawn fan attention due to visible scarring around his left eye. This scarring appears to be related to a reported fireworks accident in July 2025, which resulted in a superficial eye injury requiring medical treatment at John Muir Hospital.
