Nissan Europe electric vehicle strategy
Overview
Nissan continues to advance its European electrification agenda, recently surpassing 1.25 million electrified vehicle sales in the region since the 2010 debut of the Leaf. Of these, approximately 350,000 are pure-electric models.
In July 2026, Nissan Spain CEO Christian Costaganna outlined the ‘Nissan Vision’ in Seville, identifying Andalusia as a key region for mobility. The strategy includes an industrial reorganization to reduce development time and a ‘Re:Nissan’ recovery plan targeting €2.7 billion in cost savings. The company aims to rationalize its model range from 56 to 45 vehicles and achieve a fully electrified European lineup before 2030.
The expanded portfolio features the third-generation Leaf, the updated Ariya, and e-POWER hybrid versions of the X-Trail and Qashqai. In August 2026, Nissan launched the sixth-generation, all-electric Micra built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance AmpR Small platform. This urban model, measuring 3.97 meters in length, offers two battery options: a 40 kWh version with up to 317 km of WLTP range, and a 52 kWh version providing up to 415 km in combined cycles and up to 574 km in urban use. The vehicle features a digital cockpit with two 10.1-inch screens and integrated Google services, including Google Maps, Assistant, and the Play Store. Through the NissanConnect app, users can manage cabin temperature and monitor charging status.
In specific markets like Spain, the Micra is eligible for the Auto+ plan subsidy of 4,500 euros. Future commitments include a fully electric Juke slated for early 2027—described by CEO Ivan Espinosa as ‘compact, agile and unmistakably Nissan’—and an entry-level A-segment electric model developed in partnership with Renault.
