Polish public opinion on international standing and security

Public opinion in Poland shows varied perspectives on the nation’s international standing and security. In late August 2026, polling indicated a divided populace regarding Poland’s global position, with 33.1% believing it had improved and 27.3% believing it had worsened. During this period, there was also a strong reported desire for cooperation between the government and the president on security and defense matters.

By early September 2026, specific stances on international relations and national safety became more pronounced. While approximately 73.4% of the population reported feeling that Poland is a safe country, views on historical grievances intensified. Approximately 73.9% of Poles believe Germany should pay war reparations for World War II damages, with 47.7% specifically demanding “full compensation for all material and human losses.”

Domestic political sentiment also showed shifts. The government led by Donald Tusk saw a slight recovery in approval, with positive assessments of the Council of Ministers rising to 30%, a 6 percentage point increase from July, though 51% of respondents remained critical.

Regarding external influences, public opinion on the impact of Donald Trump’s presidency is divided. Approximately 53.4% of respondents view his influence on Polish interests and security negatively, compared to 36.3% who view it positively. These assessments are heavily influenced by political affiliation, with government supporters and opposition voters holding starkly different views.
