Reserve military activities in Eastern Europe
Entities: Ministry of National Defence (Romania) · NATO · Romania · Alexandru Ioan Cuza Association · Confederation Interallied of Reserve Officers (CIOR)
Overview
In late July 2026, Moldova’s National Army ran a five‑day training exercise for about 100 reservists at the Bulboaca training centre, covering night‑time shooting, drone use, navigation, camouflage, shelter construction and combat first‑aid to preserve rapid‑response capabilities.
Following that, Romania hosted the largest annual NATO reserve officers congress from 2 to 8 August in Bucharest. The event, held under the High Patronage of the Romanian President, brought together more than 500 reservists from 29 NATO and partner states. Organized by the Romanian Association of Reserve Officers and the National Association of Military Cadres in Reserve and Retirement “Alexandru Ioan Cuza”, the programme featured specialist workshops, the CIMEX‑26 civil‑military exercise, a security symposium titled “Winning the war of narratives”, and the MILCOMP 2026 sport‑military competition. The three inter‑allied confederations – CIOR, CIOMR and CISOR – representing over 1.3 million reservists from 34 NATO nations participated, underscoring Romania’s role in collective defence amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
