Rome minicar assault investigation: manslaughter charge

Overview

Authorities in Rome have identified the suspects in the ‘black minicar gang’ investigation as two minors, aged 16 and 17. Following overnight interrogations, the suspects reportedly admitted to participating in a series of six violent attacks between October 4 and 5 in the Monteverde Vecchio and Testaccio neighborhoods, stating they acted “for fun” because they were “bored.” Prosecutor Ambrogio Cassiani has coordinated charges of attempted murder and personal injury, with the case being transferred to the Juvenile Court of Rome.

The investigation utilized surveillance footage, digital evidence from parental control applications, and testimony from a mechanic to track the stolen black diesel Aixam Gto Emotion microcar. The 17-year-old driver is the son of a Carabinieri officer.

In a significant legal development, the Rome Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the minor involved in the most severe incident, which left actor Davide Iacopini with a traumatic brain injury. The individual is now accused of manslaughter. While the suspect claimed he only pulled the actor's hand from the handlebars, a witness reported seeing the minor kick Iacopini, causing him to fall and strike his head against a parked vehicle.

Iacopini, 42, remains in intensive care at San Camillo-Forlanini hospital. While his prognosis remains “strictly reserved,” medical staff have begun reducing sedation as he shows slow but gradual signs of improvement. He will require a rehabilitation phase following his recovery.
