Social assistance programs in Mexico

Overview

Social assistance programs managed by Integral Family Development (DIF/SEDIF) agencies in Mexico continue to provide aid to vulnerable populations through community outreach and specialized services. In Puebla, the State System for Integral Family Development (SEDIF) is expanding its initiatives. Through the ‘Jornada Por Amor a las Familias’ in the La Resurrección district, 223 families recently received 909 food baskets. In the Sierra Negra region, specifically Tehuacán and Ajalpan, SEDIF provides mammographies in coordination with the Breast Cancer Foundation (FUCAM), food aid, and financial support for cancer patient caregivers. Led by Director General Carlos Ochoa Rodríguez and President Ceci Arellano, the agency aims to support over 88,000 families across 26 municipalities with a total investment exceeding 147 million pesos. Expanding this outreach, SEDIF recently conducted the ‘Por Amor a las Familias’ program in San Felipe Hueyotlipan, Puebla, providing aid to more than 2,200 families, including 9,012 food baskets, financial support for cancer caregivers, and checks for community works benefiting 1,200 users of three Community Child Care Centers. In Puebla Capital, the DIF has launched the ‘Alimentación Imparable’ program, which has distributed over 11,000 food supplies to bolster household economies. Recent efforts include the ‘Jornada Integral Por Amor a las Familias’ at the Parque Ecológico in Puebla, where SEDIF distributed 7,775 food pantries to 2,345 beneficiaries with an investment of over 3.4 million pesos. This event also provided 286,438 pesos for seven community projects and various medical, dental, and psychological services. Furthermore, SEDIF has distributed more than 1,700 food packages to vulnerable groups, including senior citizens and malnourished children, across communities such as San Miguel Canoa and Santa María Xonacatepec through the ‘Mil Días y Primera Infancia’ program.
