Guitarist Kim Thayil indicated that the band is targeting a release in 2027. While the project aims for eight or nine tracks, Thayil described the process of completing the work as “emotionally draining,” emphasizing the importance of honoring Cornell’s legacy and ensuring the record maintains the band’s established identity. The band has not ruled out touring to promote the release or the potential use of a guest vocalist.

In September 2026, Thayil provided further technical details, describing the production process as “forensic in nature.” He noted that the band has had to deconstruct and rebuild performances around existing vocal and drum tracks. He characterized the new material as introspective and containing “quirky elements.”

The production follows a long period of stagnation caused by a legal dispute with Cornell’s estate, which was resolved in 2023. The surviving members continue to finalize remaining instrumental parts and may incorporate additional material to ensure the final offering meets their standards.
