Expansion and record participation in Spanish summer studies
Overview
Spain’s universities have demonstrated significant growth and diversification in their summer academic offerings throughout the 2026 season.
In late June, the University of Granada launched its 31st International Summer Courses in Melilla, focusing on wellbeing, education, and sport, while the Catholic University of Ávila inaugurated its 27th Spanish course for foreigners, emphasizing cultural immersion.
By late July, several institutions reported record-breaking engagement. The Universidad Internacional de Andalucía (UNIA) concluded its 83rd summer edition at the La Rábida campus with a historic attendance of approximately 600 students from twelve nations, covering specialized topics like green hydrogen and AI in education. Similarly, the University of Granada reported high demand for its undergraduate programs, with vice-rector Juan Luis Benítez noting that the increase in filled places “refleja el gran interés que suscita la oferta académica de la Universidad de Granada.”
International collaborations remained a cornerstone of the season. La Salle Campus Madrid hosted faculty from the Proyecto de Universidad Distrital to define educator profiles, and the University of Oviedo’s “Campus Temple in Spain” program facilitated intensive study for American students and professors. The University of La Rioja also concluded its Campus Valle de la Lengua project, hosting 60 students from a diverse array of countries.
As the season progressed into August, programming shifted toward specialized workshops. The University of León hosted sessions on contemporary Spanish poetry, while UNIA conducted workshops in Baeza focused on inclusive education, such as teaching Spanish to immigrants and refugees, and the role of educational technology in social inclusion.
