Internacional faces rising deficit and election scheduling

Overview

Sport Club Internacional’s financial and administrative crisis has intensified. The club reported a first-semester deficit of R$ 160 million, significantly exceeding the budgeted R$ 109.3 million, due to lower player sales and the absence of a master sponsor.

Regulatory and sporting sanctions have expanded. While the club remains under FIFA transfer bans due to unpaid obligations for the transfers of Ramon from Olympiacos and Juninho from Midtjylland, new domestic restrictions have emerged. Following a request to join a Collective Installment Plan through the National Chamber for Dispute Resolution (CNRD) to reorganize approximately R$ 31 million in sports debts, the National Agency for Regulation and Sustainability of Football (Anresf) has placed the club under a preventive block. This measure requires all new player registrations to receive prior authorization from Anresf.

Total projected liabilities for the next two years remain estimated at over R$ 200 million, with debts of approximately R$ 117 million linked to civil, labor, and CNRD processes potentially triggering up to five additional transfer bans. Despite these hurdles, the club recently reported that player salaries were paid on time.

Politically, the Deliberative Council rejected a proposal to advance the 2026 elections. The General Assembly is set for December 12, with the first round of council voting scheduled for November 9. The winner of the subsequent second round will preside over the club for the 2027-2029 term.
