Tank Dell return and Texans loss to Giants

Overview

Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell returned to professional football on October 25, 2026, in a Week 7 matchup against the New York Giants at Reliant Stadium. This marked his first game in approximately 22 months following catastrophic knee injuries sustained in December 2024. In his return, Dell recorded a 43-yard reception.

Despite the presence of Dell and a late touchdown by Xavier Hutchinson that forced overtime, the Texans lost the game 27-21. The New York Giants secured the overtime victory, improving their record to 4-2-1. The winning score was a 30-yard rushing touchdown by Devin Singletary.

The Giants' victory was bolstered by the debut start of quarterback J.J. McCarthy, who was traded from the Minnesota Vikings. McCarthy completed 20 of 28 passes for 252 yards with a 99.1 passer rating. While he did not record a touchdown or an interception, he orchestrated four scoring drives and connected with Malik Nabers and Malachi Fields for significant gains. Following the win, McCarthy stated, “Truly the only stat I care about is going 1-0.”

After blowing a lead in the final minute of regulation, the Giants forced a three-and-out in overtime and executed an 81-yard drive in three plays to clinch the win. Key plays in the extra period included a 9-yard completion from McCarthy to Nabers and a 42-yard run by Cam Skattebo. Giants head coach John Harbaugh praised the team's resilience, stating they won because they “didn't quit” and “didn't sulk.” Despite injuries to quarterback Jaxson Dart and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, the Giants enter their bye week as the only NFC East team with a winning record. The loss dropped the Texans' record to 2-5.
