A central mechanic involves a strict 30-day time limit consumed by traveling, completing quests, or learning skills. While community mods like ‘Better Story Timer’ can extend this limit, some players have criticized the system for triggering a ‘fear of missing out’ (FOMO) rather than encouraging replayability. Despite this, the game has seen strong sales and critical reception.

Questing details have become more specific. The ‘Forge It Anew’ quest, which involves restoring the Broken Sword of St. Mihai, can be initiated through exploration or the ‘A Monk and a Saint’ mission. To unlock the ‘Arbiter’s Blade’ achievement, players must complete sub-quests such as ‘Do Not Disturb’, ‘Executive Order’, and ‘Hostile Takeover’ with a Uriashi blacksmith.

Multiple endings are available. Players can attempt to end the game early by marching to Brencis' Castle, though developers suggest this is nearly impossible. A secret ending, ‘Together Forever’, is unlocked by surviving a deadly time loop during the ‘Trautes Heim’ quest using only scavenged food and healing salves.

Character enhancement relies on skill manuals and the ‘Corruption’ system. Drinking blood from animals, humans, or Vrakhir increases Corruption, which tracks Coen’s vampiric abilities. This level cannot be cured or reversed, and players are advised to use blood vials for healing and crafting instead.
