UAEMéx institutional development and student initiatives
Overview
The Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México (UAEMéx) continues to expand its institutional reach through academic, scientific, and regional development initiatives.
In August 2026, the university hosted its Employment, Internship, and Social Service Fair in Toluca. Organized by the Secretariat of Linkage, Extension, and Employability Promotion, the event connected over 1,300 students and graduates with 110 organizations. The fair offered 698 professional internship opportunities and 506 social service positions, an initiative Sandra Alejandra Garduño Romero, Director of Linkage and Employability Promotion, stated aligns with the “2025-2029 Institutional Development Rector Plan” to enhance labor market insertion.
The university’s scientific community is also seeing rapid growth. Based on preliminary results from the 2026 call for the Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII), UAEMéx is projected to exceed 1,000 recognized researchers by January 1, 2027. This projected total of 1,011 researchers—comprising 524 at Level 1, 179 at Level 2, 32 at Level 3, and three Emeritus researchers—represents a 60.5 percent increase from the 630 members recorded in 2021.
Regional expansion is being formalized through a collaboration agreement between UAEMéx and the Cuautitlán Izcalli municipal government. In September 2026, Rector Martha Patricia Zarza Delgado and Mayor Luis Daniel Serrano Palacios signed a general agreement to transform the local Professional Academic Unit into a University Center. To support this transition, the municipality has provided 87 computers and will begin construction on an arcotecho structure to benefit approximately 2,300 students.
