The failure stemmed from a disagreement over deal structure: Aston Villa proposed a loan with an option to buy, whereas Bayern Munich insisted on a permanent sale to avoid further financial write-downs on the 31-year-old. Eberl commented on the breakdown, stating, “It simply does not work, because we are not in a situation where we have to do everything that others try to impose on us.”

Following the failed negotiations with Villa, Newcastle United has emerged as a serious contender for the midfielder. Reports suggest Newcastle has offered a concrete three-year contract. Bayern is reportedly willing to accept a fee of approximately €25 million, a reduction from his original €51 million acquisition cost, but remains firm on avoiding further loan arrangements.

Parallel to these transfer efforts, Bayern is preparing to sell a 5 percent stake in its professional football AG to Viessmann for approximately €250 million.
