Warsaw traffic upgrades and parking expansion
Overview
In early July 2026, Warsaw’s road-service department logged 5,625 interventions, marking the start of upgrades on Puławska Street. By early August, tram service resumed on Alei Solidarności and Alei Jana Pawła II, returning to pre-renovation schedules. While new lanes opened from Okopowa to Żelazna, restrictions remained, including a prohibited crossing at the Solidarności–Jana Pawła II intersection and detours near the Church of the Nativity and Ogrodowa.
The unattended paid-parking zone expanded in September 2026 to include the Odolany estate and the area between Saska and Międzynarodowa streets. A second phase in May 2027 is set to extend the zone to Służewiec, parts of Służew, and the Włochy district, ending free parking in the “Mordor” area.
Infrastructure works have also impacted the Mokotów district. From 15 August, tram lines 4 and 10 were shortened to terminate at Metro Wilanowska due to the closure of the Lotników Avenue crossing, though several bus lines (including 189, 193, 317, 401, 402, N01, and N33) eventually returned to standard routes following the reopening of the Aleja Lotników connection. Additionally, tram service resumed on Grójecka Street (lines 1 and 9) after track and drainage upgrades.
New renovation phases have since commenced on Puławska Street between Metro Wilanowska and the Wyścigi loops. This has necessitated lane narrowing toward Ursynów and diversions at the Puławska, Aleja Wilanowska, and Aleja Niepodległości intersection. These efforts are part of the Warsaw Tram Program, a 36-project initiative to modernize 12 km of track.
