Overview

In late July 2026, two West African states announced significant changes to their executive teams. Senegal issued a presidential decree on 23 July that reorganised the presidential cabinet, creating a new Chief of Cabinet position to coordinate information flow and daily operations. The reform also adjusted the hierarchy of the prime‑ministerial office after the departure of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in May, appointing Al Aminou Lô as the new head of government and redistributing several ministries to improve administrative coordination. On 22 August, Doumbouya intensified his administration’s reorganization through a series of dismissals targeting both civilian and military sectors, framing the actions as part of an anti-corruption drive. On 24 August, a decree dismissed approximately 173 military personnel for desertion. On 5 September, marking five years since the 2021 coup, Guinean Deputy and Bloc Libéral President Faya Millimouno called for a formal assessment of the Doumbouya administration, arguing that the time for accountability regarding corruption and citizens' rights has arrived. On the same day, President Doumbouya issued a message to the nation characterizing the anniversary not as a day of triumph, but as a day of mourning and remembrance. He claimed the nation has successfully worked to reduce ethnocentrism and reaffirmed his commitment to the ‘Simandou 2040’ vision to ensure a prosperous future.
