West African cabinet reshuffles

In late July 2026, two West African states announced significant changes to their executive teams.

Senegal issued a presidential decree on 23 July that reorganised the presidential cabinet, creating a new Chief of Cabinet position to coordinate information flow and daily operations. The reform also adjusted the hierarchy of the prime‑ministerial office after the departure of Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko in May, appointing Al Aminou Lô as the new head of government and redistributing several ministries to improve administrative coordination.

Four days later, on 27 July, Guinea’s transitional president Mamadi Doumbouya conducted a partial cabinet reshuffle while retaining Prime Minister Amadou Oury Bah. The reshuffle appointed new ministers for education, territory administration, defence, industry and agriculture, and kept several incumbents in justice, foreign affairs, and finance. The changes occur amid the country’s extended political transition following the 2021 coup.

Both countries are using cabinet reorganisation as a tool to address governance challenges during periods of political transition.
