Overview

Major networking manufacturers have begun unveiling their initial product lineups based on the upcoming Wi-Fi 8 standard (IEEE 802.11bn). These early offerings prioritize connection stability, reduced latency, and improved performance in congested environments over raw peak speeds.

ASUS has moved toward retail availability, announcing the launch of the ROG Rapture GT-BN98 series in Canada, which marks the debut of the world’s first consumer-grade Wi-Fi 8 routers. The series includes the GT-BN98 Pro (BN30000), a quad-band device for the North American market with throughput up to 30,000 Mbps, and the standard GT-BN98, which targets Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific with throughput up to 25,000 Mbps. Both models feature a 2.6GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and multiple 10Gbps and 2.5Gbps ports. ASUS also announced the ZenWiFi BN12 mesh ecosystem, scheduled for release in October.

While the IEEE 802.11bn standard remains in draft form with final approval expected in 2028, engineers indicate these routers can provide performance gains even when paired with existing Wi-Fi 7 devices.

At IFA 2026 in Berlin, TP-Link Systems Inc. also unveiled its first complete Wi-Fi 8 lineup, led by the Archer 8 Ultra router and the Deco 8 Ultra mesh system. Both TP-Link products utilize a ‘StabilityEngine’ incorporating technologies like Enhanced Long Range (ELR), Distributed Resource Units (DRU), and Non-Primary Channel Access (NPCA). Regional pre-orders for TP-Link are scheduled for September 30, 2026.
