Bac Ninh and Vietnam economic and high-tech FDI trends
Overview
Bac Ninh Province continues its transition toward becoming a Class I urban area and a centrally-governed city. By early September 2026, the province is shifting toward integrated urban industrial spaces that combine manufacturing with residential areas, services, and logistics. In the Neh ward, four active industrial zones—Dinh Tram, Quang Chau, Van Trung, and Viet Han (Phase 1)—cover over 1,044 hectares. These zones host 372 projects, including 297 FDI projects with a total registered capital of $9.4 billion. Major corporations such as Foxconn, Luxshare, and Hana Micron are key investors, supporting approximately 220,000 workers. These zones contribute roughly 30% of the province’s total industrial production value and import-export turnover.
This localized growth aligns with a broader national surge in foreign direct investment (FDI). In the first eight months of 2026, Vietnam’s total registered FDI reached $40.63 billion, a 55.4% increase over the previous year, with Singapore contributing $7.62 billion. Realized FDI reached $17.25 billion, marking the highest eight-month total in five years. The manufacturing and processing sector remains dominant, accounting for 82.6% of realized FDI.
Nationally, the focus has shifted from cost-based attraction to high-quality capital in strategic sectors like semiconductors, AI, and renewable energy. This is reflected in regional restructuring, where provinces like Hung Yen and Phu Tho are prioritizing green industrial zones and Net-Zero standards through circular waste management and renewable energy.
