In a significant expansion of the procurement program, the U.S. Air Force has doubled its order for the Boeing F-15EX Eagle II, increasing the total from 129 to 267 aircraft. These modernized fighters are intended to replace aging F-15E Strike Eagles. However, the Pentagon has raised concerns regarding rising costs and technical complexities, noting that each unit is priced at approximately $94 million. The program also faces logistical hurdles, including supply chain shortages for GE engines, Elbit cockpit displays, and Collins Aerospace ejection system cartridges. There remains a strategic risk that essential parts may go out of production before the fleet is complete, potentially requiring expensive technical redesigns.
