Campo Grande 127th anniversary and municipal developments

Overview

The city of Campo Grande is conducting various celebrations and honors in connection with its 127th anniversary. In mid-August, the 4th edition of the Elderly Festival (FESTSUAS 2026) was held at the Vovó Ziza Elderly Coexistence Center, featuring exhibits from 21 Social Assistance Reference Centers and Elderly Coexistence Centers. Community-focused initiatives have expanded to include the ‘Todos em Ação’ program in the Oliveira III neighborhood, which provided over 300 free services and job-related workshops. Environmental and health-oriented activities also took place, including a cleaning and preservation action at Cachoeira do Ceuzinho and a large-scale fitness event at Parque do Sóter. In the sports sector, Funesp is releasing the third installment of the ‘Auxílio-Atleta’ benefit for 2026 to support approximately 64 athletes across 15 modalities. To honor local contributions, the City Council held a solemn session attended by Governor Eduardo Riedel and Mayor Adriane Lopes. During the ceremony, 85 individuals were recognized with the Citizen of Campo Grande Title, the Meritorious Citizen Title, and the ‘José Antônio Pereira’ Legislative Merit Medal for their professional contributions and social actions. City Council President Epaminondas Neto, known as Papy, stated the honors express gratitude to those who have established roots in the capital. A special tribute was also paid to photojournalist Roberto Higa for his historical documentation of the city, accompanied by an exhibition of historical photographs. Religious activities have also been integrated into the anniversary schedule. On August 26, the 34th edition of the March for Jesus took place despite rainfall. The event, which included Mayor Adriane Lopes and featured gospel performances by artists such as Banda Destino City and Rafael Mello, began at Praça do Rádio before proceeding along Avenida Afonso Pena toward Parque das Nações Indígenas.
