Child protection and domestic violence in Poland

Overview

In October 2026, Poland launched the ‘Childhood Without Violence’ nationwide social campaign to combat child abuse and promote non-violent parenting. Organized by Fundacja Dajemy Dzieciom Siłę and the National Coalition for Child Protection, with support from the Ombudsman for Children, the initiative involves nearly 9,000 institutions and the Catholic Church. The campaign, running from October 5 to November 19, 2026, operates under the slogan ‘Violence takes power away from children.’

The initiative addresses statistics showing over 30 percent of Polish children experience adult violence and 87 percent experience peer violence. In the Lublin region, police initiate approximately 5,000 Blue Card procedures annually related to domestic violence, a figure showing an upward trend. Experts warn that psychological violence—including constant criticism, shouting, or ignoring emotional needs—causes lasting mental health damage. To mark the campaign’s conclusion on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Children, buildings across the country will be illuminated in red.

Educational efforts have expanded through community initiatives. In Warsaw, sessions emphasized that violence includes psychological harm like bullying and threats. In Kurzętnik, meetings focused on the legal consequences of peer violence, cyberbullying, and property damage to promote social responsibility among minors.

Parallel to preventative efforts, authorities have pursued legal action. In Polkowice, a 42-year-old man was arrested for several years of abusing his wife. In Sandomierz, indictments were filed against 23-year-old Bartłomiej L. for abusing a nine-month-old infant and the child’s mother, a case discovered in July after medical professionals identified injuries.
