Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 release and narrative details

Overview

Netflix and CD Projekt RED have confirmed that the new anime series, ‘Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2’, is scheduled to premiere globally on October 20, 2026. Produced in collaboration with animation studio TRIGGER, the ten-episode installment serves as a standalone narrative set within the Night City universe. Rather than continuing the story of previous characters, the series introduces a new cast, including Weak Kingsley—a former cyberpunk legend living without bodily enhancements—and the nomad D, who is on a quest for vengeance. New characters also include Roman Carax and Talia Yang.

Recent updates clarify the series' narrative structure. Producer Bartosz Sztybor has compared the storytelling approach to Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Pulp Fiction’, noting that the season will feature six to eight central characters whose independent storylines will eventually intersect. This multi-character perspective aims to explore Night City through various lenses rather than following a single protagonist. The narrative is described as a “raw chronicle of redemption and revenge” that explores themes of cyberpsychosis and the struggle of organic resistance in a tech-dominated society.

The series is directed by Kai Ikarashi, with Bartosz Sztybor returning as showrunner. The production features an opening theme by The Cure and tracks by Rico Nasty, alongside music by the artist duo DOUDOU. Following its release on October 20, the series quickly reached the top of viewership charts in several regions. While the season concludes with an open ending that leaves the characters alive, Netflix has not yet officially announced a third season.

Post-release details highlight the shift toward an anthology format. The season follows diverse voices, including Roman Carax, a young cinephile navigating the capitalist dystopia. Additionally, the production continues its use of Polish music, featuring the track ‘Serce’ by the independent duo LSO in the third episode.
