Investigation into disappearance of school director in Corri
Overview
Authorities in Corrientes, Argentina, continue an intensive search for Nancy Estela Godoy, a 52-year-old substitute school director missing since October 6. Godoy was last seen heading toward Rural School No. 626 in the El Malezal area, with her last contact being a WhatsApp message to her son on October 7. Concern escalated when the school was found with lights on but no sign of the teacher on October 14, prompting a formal report.
As of late October, prosecutors Javier Mosquera and María Andrea González have officially shifted the investigation toward a femicide hypothesis and ordered the arrest of several individuals. Ireneo Zarza, a foreman at the El Curupí estancia where Godoy served as acting director, has been identified as a primary suspect. Along with Nahuel Rojas and an individual identified as Sandoval, Zarza has been charged as a co-author of femicide. Other detainees include Rosa Leguizamón, a neighbor, who faces charges of “simple homicide” after investigators suspect she may have facilitated the crime. Additionally, Ernesto Ezequiel Bordón was arrested for false testimony after police recovered four knives and clothing with reddish stains from his residence; these items are undergoing DNA testing to determine if the stains are human blood.
Recent developments include the discovery of burned clothing at a rural shelter used by Ireneo Zarza, located approximately 150 meters from the school. These items are undergoing DNA testing to confirm if they belong to Godoy. Investigators are also examining a muzzle that may suggest the involvement of laborers from the El Curupí estate and inspecting water wells. Despite these findings and the indefinite preventive detention of Zarza and Sandoval, Godoy’s body has not yet been located.
