Overview

Moinil warned that Belgium faces a risk of becoming a ‘narco-state’ if decisive action is not taken, while dismissing the legalization of cannabis as a solution to weaken traffickers. To combat the influence of traffickers, authorities have closed approximately 350 bars and restaurants in Brussels and seized 3,500 luxury cars since 2025. On August 31, 2026, a large-scale Full Integrated Police Action (FIPA) under the ‘Plan Grote Steden’ resulted in 60 arrests and 120 fines. The operation involved over 600 personnel, including 450 police officers and more than 60 military members.
