Dungeon Crawler Carl franchise expansion and adaptation

Overview

The Dungeon Crawler Carl franchise continues to expand its commercial and creative footprint. Following the announcement of the Peacock live-action series, July 2026 Circana BookScan data revealed that the series’ webtoon adaptation topped the charts for adult graphic novels.

During San Diego Comic-Con, author Matt Dinniman discussed the possibility of a video game adaptation, expressing interest in an open-world format, though he noted that rights discussions remain ongoing.

In mid-August, production details for the Peacock adaptation progressed with the addition of Eric Heisserer as co-showrunner and executive producer. Heisserer, an Oscar-nominated screenwriter for ‘Arrival’ and former showrunner for ‘Shadow and Bone’, will partner with Chris Yost. Yost, previously attached as a writer and executive producer, brings experience from ‘The Mandalorian’, ‘Star Wars Rebels’, and Marvel’s ‘Thor’ films.

The production remains a collaboration between Universal Global Television, Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door Productions, Erica Huggins, and Rachel Hargreaves-Heald, with Dinniman serving as a co-executive producer. Dinniman has emphasized that the creative team must be familiar with the source material and noted that the series will not be a “page-for-page adaptation,” as the novels’ scope would require multiple seasons to cover entirely. Jeff Hays is confirmed to return to voice Princess Donut. The series, which follows survivors navigating a sadistic intergalactic game show, has seen total sales across all formats reach between 10 million and 14 million copies.
