Dyson CameraJet sales suspended due to technical failures
Overview
Dyson has suspended sales of its CameraJet electric toothbrush following reports of significant technical failures. The device, priced at approximately 479 to 499 euros, features a 100,000-pixel macro camera and AI-driven ‘Gap Optical Targeting’ technology designed to identify and clean interdental spaces with a liquid jet.
Users have reported that the device is not water-resistant, with some units failing within 24 hours—or even seconds—of use due to water entering the housing and leaking into the battery compartment. In France, sales were suspended approximately ten days after the initial launch due to a component defect that triggered battery overheating alerts.
While the product was marketed as a premium innovation resulting from six years of research, it has begun disappearing from online storefronts and retail shelves in several regions, including France, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and the United States.
Dyson has since officially acknowledged that manufacturing defects in the device’s jet nozzle caused water leakage. A company spokesperson clarified that a production batch of jet tubes experienced a process issue that created the potential for water seepage. This leakage can penetrate internal components, leading to sudden power failures.
Dyson has stated that these issues affect a limited number of units from early production batches, primarily in the UK, and has isolated the affected inventory. While the product was temporarily out of stock, the company noted that no devices were shipped in the US due to the issue. Dyson has apologized to customers and is offering full refunds to those affected. Despite these setbacks, Dyson intends to continue developing oral care as a major product category, including plans for items such as foam-free toothpaste.
