Egypt industrial development and export support efforts

Egypt's Ministry of Industry has initiated efforts to strengthen the national manufacturing sector through both high-level strategic planning and localized administrative reforms. Infrastructure improvements, including gas, electricity, road services, and the construction of the Gerza bridge, remain priorities. Furthermore, the Ministry is targeting sector-specific growth, notably within the furniture industry, by bridging the gap between designers and producers to increase export volumes. In a parallel effort, Minister of State for Military Production Salah Gamblat has committed to utilizing surplus production capacity from military-affiliated companies to manufacture high-quality civilian products. Expanding its international outreach, Minister Hashem met with Spanish Ambassador Sergio Roman Caranța Forster to discuss strengthening industrial cooperation and attracting Spanish investment in sectors such as textiles, automotive, and renewable energy. To facilitate this, the Ministry is promoting a new ‘Industrial Franchise’ system to reduce procedural burdens for small and medium-sized enterprises. Complementing these industrial goals, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid has moved to enhance commercial representation. Farid oversaw the swearing-in of 15 new members of the Egyptian Commercial Service, describing the agency as the ‘spearhead’ for the Egyptian economy. He called for a shift toward ‘effective targeting’ to proactively identify markets and sectors.
