Estêvão Willian playing time concerns and transfer interest

Overview

Brazilian winger Estêvão Willian continues to face uncertainty regarding his playing time at Chelsea under manager Xabi Alonso. While previously noted for his positive attitude, the 19-year-old has seen minimal Premier League involvement, recording only 23 minutes across five matches prior to the recent international break. The lack of minutes is attributed to Alonso’s tactical preference for a 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 formation.

Despite reports of frustration, Estêvão has publicly vowed to fight for a starting spot, stating he respects the coach’s vision and is focusing on “what I can control” by performing well in training. However, competition remains intense; high-profile signings like Morgan Rogers have solidified their places in the attacking rotation alongside Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro. Additional tensions have been reported regarding the player’s physical development, specifically a reluctance to increase muscle mass to preserve his agility.

As the season progresses, the player’s future has become increasingly volatile. Former Chelsea winger Scott Sinclair has urged the youngster to seek a move to ensure match fitness, noting that “the longer you go without playing, the less match-fit you become.” While Barcelona continues to monitor the situation, Chelsea is reportedly considering a loan move to Paris Saint-Germain in January to help the player gain rhythm. Other major clubs, including Liverpool and Real Madrid, are also reportedly tracking his status.
