EU pay‑transparency rollout: Austria, Czech, Slovakia, Polan
Entities: European Union · Czech Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs · European Parliament · Poland · Czech Republic
Overview
The EU Pay Transparency Directive will become binding on 7 June 2026, but transposition remains uneven across member states. Austria still lacks a timetable after missing the original June deadline; the Commission has moved the national deadline to 1 January 2027 while keeping the reporting deadline of 7 June 2027. Austria’s social minister is drafting legislation, but pay‑consultant Conrad Pramböck warns the upcoming reporting obligations could become a “bureaucracy monster” with limited impact on gender pay equity.
Slovakia’s law 76/2026 Z.z., effective 7 June 2026, requires firms to justify wage differences and report detailed compensation data by the end of July. A ministry‑issued methodology now guides companies on assessing responsibility, complexity, working conditions and soft‑skill factors.
The Czech Republic’s amendment to the labour code, which introduces the right for employees to request peer salary information once a year and lowers fines for non‑disclosure, has been finalised by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs and is now headed to the government. Employer groups stress that the new reporting and data‑analysis requirements will be a heavy burden, especially for SMEs.
Poland is also slated to transpose the directive by 7 June 2026, but national legislation is still pending. Employers, particularly small and medium‑sized firms, warn of insufficient tools, time and resources to meet the disclosure and reporting obligations. Analysts caution that without clear rules the directive could create regulatory chaos and shift compliance risks onto companies.
Across the region, clearer pay explanations are seen as a step toward gender‑pay equity, yet the growing administrative load fuels criticism of the directive’s overall effectiveness.
