Hakan Çalhanoğlu contract renewal and injury status

Overview

Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Çalhanoğlu has entered the final stages of his contract, with the club prioritizing a renewal to prevent a free transfer. While management values his technical ability, his recent history of muscle injuries, specifically involving his right thigh adductor, has led the club to adopt a strategy of “cautious observation.”

Sporting director Dario Baccin is leading negotiations with a focus on financial sustainability. Inter Milan is reportedly preparing to propose a two-year extension that features a reduced base salary—potentially dropping from his current net earnings to approximately 4.5 million euros—supplemented by increased performance-based bonuses tied to both sporting results and physical health. This structure aims to mitigate the financial risk associated with his age and injury profile.

Regarding his physical status, Çalhanoğlu has returned to full group training following his adductor injury. Coach Christian Chivu has clarified that the player has been training without restrictions for a week and is available for selection for the upcoming match against Parma. Chivu addressed recent confusion regarding the player’s availability, noting that a perceived absence from a recent match was due to a late training session on a Monday, stating, “the problem was me.”

Despite the ongoing talks, external interest remains a factor. Turkish clubs Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, and Beşiktaş, along with Italian side Juventus, continue to be linked to the player, creating pressure on Inter Milan to finalize terms.
