Hanoi infrastructure and traffic management

Overview

Hanoi authorities have implemented several traffic management measures to accommodate various infrastructure projects in the city.

In August 2026, the Hanoi Department of Construction announced adjustments to Nghi Tam Road to facilitate the construction of the Tu Lien Bridge and its connecting approach roads. These measures included the implementation of a one-way temporary road to manage vehicles traveling toward Au Co Road and Nhat Tan Bridge.

Following this, in September 2026, new temporary traffic adjustments were announced for Thang Long Boulevard near the Dan Hoai Bridge for bridge expansion joint repairs and resurfacing.

Additionally, the Hanoi Department of Construction announced a traffic reorganization plan for the second phase of constructing a vehicle load control weighing station north of Thang Long Bridge. Scheduled from September 15 to November 10, 2026, the plan includes daily restrictions from 05:00 to 24:00. During this window, trucks weighing 2 tons or more and passenger vehicles with 16 or more seats (excluding buses) are prohibited from crossing the bridge. The construction will involve two phases of lane closures near Vinh Thanh Commune, which will temporarily restrict traffic to fewer lanes in alternating directions. The maximum speed in the construction zone is reduced to 40km/h, with no stopping or parking permitted.

To mitigate congestion, authorities have provided diversion routes. Vehicles traveling from northern provinces toward the south may use the Thanh Tri or Vinh Thinh bridges, National Highway 2, National Highway 32, or various expressways connecting to Ring Road 3. Fixed-route passenger buses from My Dinh, Yen Nghia, or Son Tay stations will temporarily reroute via Pham Van Dong, Tan Xuan, An Duong Vuong, and Nhat Tan Bridge.
