Huixquilucan community outreach and social services
Overview
Following the mid‑July series of 20 itinerant Human Rights Days, the municipal Human Rights Defender’s Office wrapped up visits to 49 neighborhoods, providing free legal advice and rights‑awareness training. Mayor Romina Contreras Carrasco highlighted the initiative’s role in bringing assistance directly to households and noted its continuation. On 22 July the administration held its 179th “Huixquilucan Contigo 24/7” session, meeting residents in neighborhoods such as Hacienda del Ciervo, Villa Florence and La Cañada. The mayor reiterated the weekly street‑walks and rapid response to requests on safety, infrastructure, ecology, water management and civil protection. Residents praised recent works including street‑lighting repairs, new road markings, speed‑bumps, pedestrian crossings, tree pruning, drainage cleaning and pet‑waste containers.
In August, the municipality expanded its integrated care for more than 1,270 seniors through 32 clubs, seven day‑care centers, and the Centro Gerontológico “Sagrado Corazón”. This program provides medical, psychological, and legal services, alongside nutrition and over 180 activities. During a session of the Edilicia Commission for Vulnerable Groups, officials reported that the initiative has delivered more than 5,500 trainings and 80 socialization events to promote active aging.
The government also implemented a recreational program for over 2,000 youths to combat sedentary lifestyles and anxiety, reaching 23 communities through activities at Sky Zone. Additionally, the administration concluded summer courses in the Zona Popular for children aged 6 to 11 in the Las Canteras and Federal Burocrática neighborhoods. Managed by the Dirección General de la Mujer, these courses provided artistic and physical activities while supporting working mothers. By late August, the City Council held its second Youth Council session, where young residents presented proposals on economic activation, tourism, and culture to influence public policy.
