2026 Czech municipal elections – ODS candidate shift

Entities: Michal Müller · Civic Democratic Party (ODS) · Alexandra Udženija · Jan Dvořák · Prague 1

Overview

In May 2026 the Civic Democratic Party (ODS) selected Prague mayor Tomáš Portlík as its mayoral candidate and built joint lists with TOP 09 in several cities, emphasizing housing, transport and public‑service priorities. The party’s SPOLU coalition presented a 65‑person Prague slate in June, continuing the focus on accelerated housing construction, coordinated transport, school capacity and public safety.

In July a dispute erupted over Filip Dvořák, the ODS candidate for Prague 1. Party leaders barred him on 14 July over questions about a CZK 230 million inheritance and demanded clarification. The ODS executive council set a 24 July deadline for the Prague 1 branch to replace him. On 20 July the regional ODS organisation in Prague 1 announced it would not submit any candidate list, maintaining that Dvořák had not sufficiently explained the source of his assets.

On 23 July the ODS executive council voted unanimously to expel Dvořák, citing a breach of statutes and damage to the party’s reputation. The party confirmed it will still present a candidate list for Prague 1, tasking the regional council with assembling a new slate. Dvořák rejected the decision as predetermined, insisting he had disclosed the relevant information and that no investigation had been opened.

On 29 July the regional ODS council in Prague approved a revised candidate list for Prague 1. Health councilor Michal Müller was placed at the top, followed by deputy mayor Tomáš Heres and other figures such as political scientist Daniel Kunštát, councilor Eva Špačková and Robert Jandera. The change implements the party’s decision to remove the former district mayor after his failure to explain the inheritance, and party chairwoman Alexandra Udženija said the new list reflects a forward‑looking approach.
